Our Windowsill Mushroom Kits will allow anyone to grow Yellow Oyster mushrooms from their very own windowsill. Handfuls of these delicious mushrooms will be just clutches away from your favourite dish.
Yellow Oyster is an attractive yellow variety of the popular oyster mushroom variety. A bitter taste when raw but, when cooked they become velvety crisp with a well-balanced nutty flavour. Yellow Oysters are completely versatile and make a great addition to stir-fries, pizza toppings, or cooked and served on toast.
Mushrooms are tasty, low in calories, high in protein and a great source of fibre especially for those on plant-based diets. They provide you with vital vitamins including vitamin B, selenium, potassium and copper. With our handy kits, you’ll soon have this delicious and health beneficial vegetable at just the fraction of the cost.
Whether you’re a full-time gardener or beginner, this handy kit includes a base tray, lid, and pre spawned substrate and easy to follow instructions.
Simply keep them moist and out of direct sunlight and your first crop should be ready to pick in a matter of weeks, plus you can expect at least another 2 pickings after that (See full instructions in Growing Info below).
These kits need to be started on receipt and are unsuitable for storage.
Dimensions: 17.5cm (7") x 27.5cm (11") x 8cm (3½") depth.
Full growing instructions included.
Always wash your hands before you handle any of the kits to avoid bacteria contaminating the substrates and development of other moulds.
The kit contains a base tray, plastic lid and a plastic bag containing a “spawned” substrate.
When opening the kit, check if the substrate has grown completely white, otherwise cover
the base tray with the plastic lid and store for 10–14 days at 20–25°C. Make sure that you
leave the plastic bag around the substrate.
1. Cultivation: You start the cultivation process by making five 2-3cm incisions/slits in the plastic containing the substrate. Then water the substrate with ¼ litre of water, so that the surface is moist then leave the set with the plastic lid on at a temperature of 20-25°C.
2. After around 2 weeks, white pins appear, now put the kit in a room where daylight enters, at a temperature of 10–15°C but not in direct sunlight.
3. Make sure that the surface of the substrate never dries out. Moisten at least once a day with a plant spray making sure it does not become too wet. From the white pins, small stems with
grey dots appear, the so-called “cluster”. Continue to spray the mushrooms daily to prevent them drying out during fruiting.
4. Harvesting: total harvesting time may extend to three months. A cluster must be pulled out from the substrate with a turning movement, making sure that no part of flesh remains in the substrate.
Before consumption, trim the mushroom 1cm below the gills. The stems, which are slightly
tougher, can be used to make a sauce or soup.
Now the cycle repeats itself at point 3.
You may harvest 3 times from the set. Before each harvest run, make 5 new incisions/slits
in the plastic.
Good luck and bon appetit!

Organic Garden Catalogue strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
