Producing uniform, long, heavy shanks with F1 vigour and uniformity with long, attractive blue/green foliage. High yielding with a good standing ability in the ground and late summer to early autumn harvesting. Excellent to use in soups and casseroles. Harvest August-November. Height 40-50cm (16-20"); spread 1-10cm (½-4").

Crops 30–45 weeks from sowing. A versatile vegetable which may be taken young as tasty salad leeks or matured to the traditional autumn vegetable. Sow thinly, 1.25cm deep in grooves 23cm apart in an outdoor seedbed March-April. When seedlings are 20cm high, transplant to final positions after watering the seedbed. Using a dibber/trowel, make holes 12.5–15cm deep and 23–30cm apart each way. Place a plant in each hole and fill with water to settle roots. Water frequently and gradually earth up plants, continuing until October. Grow leeks of exhibition quality by sowing under glass in February. Harvest September-March. Protect with extra fine Enviromesh where leaf moth or allium leaf miner are a problem.

Growing Information

Sow thinly directly into a finely raked seedbed at a depth of 1.5cm in rows 30cm apart or into individual modules 2 seeds per cell. When large enough to handle, transplant into holes made with a dibber 10-15cm deep, 25cm apart. Drop a plant into each hole and fill with water to settle soil around the roots. Allow 40cm between rows. To blanch and encourage more white growth on the shank, earth up the stems as growth develops. Leeks do well in moist soils especially if well prepared.
