These bulbs/tubers are best to plant during spring when the soil is warming up. They’re best planted in drifts to create a natural effect that will also greatly benefit pollinators as they’re rich in nectar. Summer bulbs are perfect for encouraging biodiversity in your garden and should be considered for mixed organic planting. We recommend adding organic matter to your planting space, and a soil improver will help them to thrive in their early stages. Many of these plants will benefit from leaving their foliage standing until early spring, as it will help to protect the crown from frosts (and the straw-coloured dead leaves also make for a great feature on frosty days!). A final tip is to lift and divide during the dormant season every 3 or 4 years, and spent flowers should be removed to encourage new growth.
