Tomatoes need a well fed soil, preferably treated with compost or rotted manure. When growing in pots, choose a rich compost.
Unless otherwise indicated, varieties listed here produce tall, indeterminate plants. The main shoot of these would grow indefinitely, given the right conditions. However, the growing point is normally pinched out after a certain number of fruit trusses have formed depending upon the location and conditions. The plant is tied to some form of support and the side shoots are removed.
