Tomatillo - Purple
“Tomatillos are related to tomatoes, but are easier to grow, no staking or nipping out needed. Once the plants get to 30cm (12”) tall, they will flop over and touch the floor, producing more branches and more fruit. Don’t try and control them, they won’t produce as much. They produce a profusion of fruit enclosed in paper husks. Slightly sticky to the touch, the fruit have a tomato and lime taste, perfect in fajitas. Try adding to salads for a zesty kick, they also make fantastic salsa and can be fried too.” Sow the seeds in shallow trays of compost in a propagator or on a sunny windowsill in March, transfer them into their final growing positions outdoors in late May/June when frost danger has passed. Harvest August-October.
