Old traditional Italian beetroot. Rosy pink skin, flesh white with concentric pink circles. Can be grated raw but is tastier cooked.
Organic gardening expert Gunars Ulmanis says in 'Organic Gardening' September 2002 "'Chioggia'looks more like a red onion than a beetroot, but grows as well as any globe type and tastes a lot sweeter."
